Traditional and holiday tournament, played in the hall of the Kolpinghaus in Merano.
In addition to chess, many participants also enjoy their holiday. The charming old town of Merano tempts with its arcades and small alleys. The world-famous promenade along the Passer River and the newly built thermal baths are just part of the many sights that are easily accessible on foot.
Spring has long since arrived in South Tyrol in April, making nature blossom and appear in a special light.
The beautiful surroundings invite for excursions. This time, some of the participants undertook a hike along the Algunder Waalweg.
General Information about the Tournament:
The chess tournament will be played after Easter with 9 rounds in Swiss system,Thinking time is 90 minutes / 40 movesthen 2x 30 min. remaining30 seconds increment from the 1st move
The image below shows the Kurhaus in the center of Meran, just a few minutes walk from the quietsuburb of Obermais with its traditional and extremely elegant hotels.
Arrival
By car: the fastest route is via the Brenner Autobahn through Bolzano, exiting Bolzano-South to Merano. Alternatively, one can go over the Reschenpass, but even there the shortest way includes a short stretch of highway in Austria, which requires a toll. The route over the Jaufenpass takes about 1.5 hours longer than via Bolzano, passing through old villages and countless serpentines. The Timmelsjoch is only passable in high summer.
It is also convenient to reach Merano by train or airplane (Bolzano (flights via Rome), Verona or Bergamo). Bus transfers from the airport are offered.
In addition, there are direct bus connections every Wednesday and Saturday from Munich Central Station.
Hotels
For the chess travelers, the top hotel Bavaria and the Hotel Palma are also available.
